To be successful on the web you must have visitors to your site. They must be able to find you or your efforts will have been in vain. How do they do this? The best way is to have your site indexed by the major search engines (Google, MSN, and Yahoo). Once a searcher types in a keyword that your site is indexed for, the page should come up in the search, and hopefully on the first page. Having your site indexed by Google should be your first priority. The problem is that it can take weeks or months for Google to index your pages. In the mean time, the web-world is passing you by. So is there anything you can do to speed up the process? Yes there is. Follow these three steps and watch the Google-bots trip over themselves to index your site.

The first thing to do is start a blog about your new site. Starting a blog is both fun and easy. There are many sites that allow you to start a blog for free. Two of the most well known sites are http://Wordpress.com and http://Blogger.com. Both are easy to set up and easy to use. Once you have your blog set up, begin writing. You can write posts about your new site, your products, or the service you are offering. It doesn’t really matter. Just be sure to use specific keywords related to your site and also post links to your site on your blog. Next, read other blogs and leave comments. List their sites on your blogroll (links from your site to other blogs). Your hope is that they will blogroll your site also. Post at least one article per day.

The second thing to do is start a free Squidoo lens at http://Squidoo.com. A Squidoo lens is a website created on Squidoo that deals with a specific subject. It can be anything under the sun, just make it specific and be sure to add a link to your website. Now, join some Squidoo Groups. Groups are lists of Squidoo lenses that have something in common. There are hundreds to choose from. Join as many groups as you can and don’t be surprised if you are not accepted to a few you apply to. The lens masters have authority over their groups and some can be really picky.

Thirdly, create a Google sitemap using the free sitemap creator from https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/docs/en/sitemap-generator.html A site map is simply a list of the pages on your site set up in a hierarchy much like an index in a book. It tells Google what pages you have on your site and which pages are most likely to change. This allows Google to index your site quicker and more accurately.
This is also free and simple to do if you follow the directions very carefully.

Follow these three steps and you will be amazed at how quickly your pages begin to show up in the Google search results. Be aware that your ranking will be very low for your keywords in the beginning. Moving up the search engine ranks takes time and perseverance. Be sure to add content to your new site daily, post to your blog daily, and add to your Squidoo lens at least weekly for the best results.

You need to set up a ‘sitemap’ for Google and Yahoo. Each has a different method. They rate the site for what it says. Make sure the terms you want to be found by are all over the site. Change your site frequently to keep ratings higher.

    For Yahoo:
    Yahoo! Submit Your Site
Yahoo! Search and Yahoo! Directory site submission information.
